#metooPsychotherapy for Survivors of Sexual Assault
Psychotherapy for Survivors of Sexual Assault
10 sessions, online or in person, with a specialist in sexual assault.
Sexual assault is a psychological as well as physical trauma. Survivors experience a range of emotional and psychological responses that can include depression, shame, self blame, PTSD, anxiety, rage, loss of a sense of meaning or purpose, reluctance to leave the house, avoidance of certain places or people, hypervigilence, emotional numbness, disruptions to work and family relationships, and profound loss of trust in one’s self, other people, and the world.
All of these responses are normal, rational, and expected after a sexual assault, similar to the 7 stages of grief. Your life has been disrupted in an intrusive, devaluing and sometimes violent way, so you go through an emotional process of trying to make sense of what happened and what it means for the future. Each person has a different set of responses based on their unique history, personality, and circumstance, but everyone will be building a strategy for dealing with their feelings about what happened, how to heal, and how to move forward.
Build a strategy, with a therapist specializing in sexual assault, that helps you minimize the trauma, cope in healthy ways, heal (instead of hide), and move forward with confidence and strength.
Sessions are $125 per hour.
I can prepare a “super bill” for your insurance company, many will reimburse a percentage of the cost of therapy. Some health saving accounts also cover psychotherapy, so be sure to check your coverage.
